Seodaemun-gu ranks the first in the country in the number of universities located in a single district, with a total of 25 universities including Ewha and Yonsei University. Among specific areas in Seodaemun-gu, Sinchon is especially crowded with young generation. For such reason, Seodaemun-gu has collaborated with one study café in Sinchon to create a job café, where young people can receive advice on employment. The first job café, DREAMSRING, began last December, and two more cafes have been added to the list this November.
DREAMSRING, originally an ordinary study café, is equipped with study rooms, seminar rooms and a reading area. It has been holding several recruitment lectures inviting professionals, and monthly career profession consulting sessions.
“In 2014, I first decided to open a study café that young people can use with cheap prices, since I understood the huge amount of financial pressure they face during their preparation for employment,” said Kim Dong-chan, the representative of the DREAMSRING. “DREAMSRING soon became a place where young generation come to dream of their future. Seodaemun-gu suggested the idea of job café which matched my ultimate objective, and I openly took the offer of being the first job café in Sinchon.”
Since its transformation into a job café, about 40 to 60 on weekdays and over 100 people on weekends make a visit to prepare for interviews, to study with others and to participate in mentoring sessions.
Especially, kiosk machine is popular among visitors. Closely connected with private recruitment portals, it provides up-to-date recruitment information, online mentoring service, and guidelines for resume all in one.
“The mentoring service is held once a month through registration since it is very popular. Also, lectures with the theme of the young finding their dreams are held twice a month,” Kim said. “But I believe the most important point is to provide proper lectures and service that are really needed for individuals in creating their future vision.”
This month, Seodaemun-gu designated two more cafés as job café, Meeple and Awesomechad. More than 10 lectures on making portfolio, preparing for interviews and start-ups were held in each cafés with about 20 to 30 people participating every lecture.
